Prepare for Fall Rain Storms

10/1/2020 (Permalink)

As the Rancho Cordova area approaches winter weather, it’s important to be aware of the flood and storm risks that could affect your home or business. If you suspect that your home or flood could be exposed to high levels of water due to storms, here are some tips to prepare your property to minimize damage.

First, ensure that crucial utilities are elevated to avoid water damage. This would include furnaces, water heaters, and electric panels.

If necessary, install “check valves” in sewer traps to prevent flood water from backing up into the drains of your home or business.

Seal walls in basements with waterproofing compounds to help avoid seepage.

If water does flood your home or business during a storm, disconnect electrical appliances if it is safe, and do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.

If water enters your home or business, make sure to call SERVPRO of Rancho Cordova as soon as possible to prevent secondary damage. As experts in water damage, we can assist you in putting your life back together after storm damage.
